Learn Return Scholarship Rules

  • To apply, you must be a full-time K-12 educator currently employed by a U.S. public or private school OR a Higher Education educator currently employed by a U.S. accredited College or University. (Part time teachers or substitute teachers are not eligible.) Master’s Degrees are designed for licensed teachers and do not lead to any state teacher or administrator certification, licensure or endorsement.

  • To apply, you must be a legal resident of one of the 50 states of the United States or the District of Columbia and must be residing in the United States at the time of the award.

  • You must have at least two or more years of teaching experience.

  • You must be employed by a U.S. public or private school at the time of application and at the time the scholarship is awarded.

  • Applicants are judged by an Independent Selection Committee made up of members of Pearson Education and educators.

  • Scholarships applications will be accepted January 4, 2010 through May 31, 2010.

  • Applications will be evaluated and scholarships will be awarded no later than August 31, 2010.

  • Financial need is not a consideration, but applicants who have all educational expenses paid through another scholarship and/or grants are ineligible.

  • Past recipients of a Liberty Mutual Learn Return Scholarship will not be eligible for additional Liberty Mutual Learn Return Scholarships.

  • Liberty Mutual will award up to ten scholarships per year. Liberty Mutual reserves the right, in its sole discretion, not to award the scholarships if no applicant achieves the minimum standards. In addition, Liberty Mutual reserves the right to discontinue this scholarship program at any time without prior notification.

  • The Learn Return Scholarship is for Master’s Degrees offered through Pearson Education only. Scholarship may not be exchanged for cash nor can the prize be applied towards any education institution other than Pearson Education participating universities.

  • At the time of this writing, Pearson Education Teacher Degree offerings include an online Master of Arts in Teaching & Learning (M.A.T.L.) through Nova Southeastern University. Program details are available at: http://www.teacher-degrees.com/.

  • Liberty Mutual, together with Pearson Education, reserves the right to add, delete or substitute educational institutions offering the Master’s Degrees. Scholarship must be redeemed with approved and featured educational institutions at the time of course registration. There will be no grandfathering. Liberty Mutual will make its best effort, together with Pearson, to substitute educational offerings with similar degree offerings, delivery methods (online, on campus, blended) and overall market value.

  • In the event that no online Master’s Degrees are available, Liberty Mutual reserves the right to provide travel vouchers to winning Scholarship awardees to attend a blended Master’s program featuring up to two (2) weekend course sessions. Each travel voucher will not exceed $1,000 and will be used exclusively to cover airfare, hotel and any and all out-of-pocket expenses associated with attending course session weekends.

  • Liberty Mutual reserves the right to replace or substitute Pearson Education as the chosen partner designated to deliver the Learn Return Scholarship.

  • Degree enrollment and use of the Learn Return Scholarship must begin within 12 months of award notification.

  • By applying, scholarship recipient agrees to verification of all information provided by recipient during application process.

  • All Scholarship finalists are subject to a background check to verify employment and criminal history. Background checks are conducted by an independent organization, the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). Data submitted to NCSI is not made available to Liberty Mutual and is covered by NCSI’s privacy and confidentiality policy. Failure to pass the background check will result in scholarship disqualification.

  • Scholarship recipients must meet all university admission requirements to enroll in the degree program. Scholarship does not guarantee program acceptance or enrollment.

  • Scholarship recipients agree that their names, likeness and personal statements may be used in winner announcements and in Liberty Mutual press releases and other promotional materials.

  • Finalists will be notified via email. Failure to respond to email communications within established time periods may result in disqualification.

  • Employees and the immediate family members of Liberty Mutual, Pearson Education and members of the Independent Selection Committee are not eligible.
